Use Linux commands to manage file permissions
In my role as a security professional within a large enterprise environment, I work closely with the research division to ensure that access to sensitive resources is governed by strict authorization controls. A core component of my responsibilities involves validating that users within this team are provisioned with the correct permissions and that access rights align with the organization’s security policies and least‑privilege principles.
My current assignment required a detailed audit of file system permissions across the research team’s Linux‑based environment. This involved examining existing access control configurations, comparing them against approved authorization requirements, and identifying discrepancies that could introduce security risk. Where misalignments were detected, I implemented corrective actions—granting access to authorized users while revoking permissions for individuals who no longer require or should not possess access to these resources.
This task demonstrates my proficiency in Linux system administration, file permission management, and enforcement of access control best practices. The accompanying report includes command outputs, screenshots, and technical justifications that document the methodology and rationale behind each modification.
Current File Permissions
Modified Linux Permissions
The Research team at my organization need to update the file permissions for certain files and directories within the "projects" directory. The permissions do not currently reflect the level of authorization that should be given. Checking and updating these permissions will help keep thier system secure.
